Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be recommended since the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it while you proceed. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
