Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw is preferred since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes with a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it while you start. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
