Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is recommended since the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped with a paint primer, but if you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
