Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
