Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be recommended as the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for no less than an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
