Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, it may require one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw can be preferred as cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a paint primer, but if you opt for bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might periodically appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
