Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and indicated for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is preferred as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding already comes with a primer coat of paint, but should you opt for bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These marks act as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
