Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be recommended since cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can fill them up by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
