Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
