Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be recommended as cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but if you opt for bare wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
