Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 square foot area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be preferred as the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a point of reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in positioning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may periodically appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
