Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw is used for used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is recommended as the cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These marks will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
