Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover each short wall, and two 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 square foot room with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is recommended since the cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a paint primer, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, you can seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
