Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is recommended as cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding is already equipped with a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a reference when nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you start. Commence from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might periodically arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to fill them up by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
