Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area that has two 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw is recommended since the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to apply a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for at least an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels will serve as a reference when joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Recruit an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may sometimes arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, put painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
