Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in your space. For instance, you might need one 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room with a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended as cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to dry for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to aid you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Commence at the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically arise along the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, you can seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
