Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of all the linear walls in your space. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot section of crown molding to trim every short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. area with two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be used for making miter cuts on crown molding, using a powered miter saw can be recommended as cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim already comes with a paint primer, but if you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood then allow it to cure for no less than an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the junction of the wall and ceiling. These labels act as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is upright. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps might sometimes arise between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, as rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet both the wall and ceiling.
