Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. For instance, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to cover every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is recommended since cuts tend to be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should use a coat of primer to the wood and let it cure for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks act as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding to the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, as rarely are these walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, you can fill them up by applying a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't yet painted them, attach painter's tape at the upper and lower sections of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
