Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of all the linear walls in the area. To illustrate, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover each lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: To begin the process, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked for cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a power miter saw is recommended since cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, the majority of molding is already equipped featuring a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood then let it cure for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a point of reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you start. Begin at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps may sometimes appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings absolutely even. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, put painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
