Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of all the linear walls in your space. For instance, you might need a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim every lesser wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has two 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and indicated before cutting. While a manual miter saw is used for used for making miter cuts on crown molding, preferring a powered miter saw can be preferred since cuts will be more precise.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, most trim is already equipped featuring a paint primer, but should you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the junction of the wall and ceiling. These marks will serve as a reference while nailing the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding attaching the crown molding on the wall, turn it over so that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically appear along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To address these spaces, it's possible to seal them by applying a line of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any remaining gaps at the mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the upper and lower sections of the moldings where they intersect the wall and ceiling.
