Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Measure the entire measurement of the straight walls in your space. For instance, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to trim each lesser wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each long wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked for cutting. Even though a manual miter box and saw can be used for miter-cutting crown molding, preferring a power miter saw can be recommended as the cuts tend to be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: Usually, most trim is already equipped with a paint primer, but if you opt for unpainted raw wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to cure for no less than an hour before installing it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark each wall stud on the wall surface, positioning the marks several inches beneath the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before installing the crown molding on the wall, turn it over ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and managing it as you start. Commence at the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces may periodically appear between the molding and both the walls and ceiling, because rarely are the walls and ceilings perfectly even. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a line of flexible, paintable caulk along them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners can also be filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings where they intersect both the wall and ceiling.
