Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require one 12-foot section of crown molding to trim each short wall, and a pair of 8-foot sections for each large wall, especially in a 165 sq. ft. room that has a couple of 15-foot walls and two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece must be measured and marked before cutting. Even though a manual miter saw is used for employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a power miter saw can be recommended as the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes with a paint primer, but should you happen to be using unpainted raw wood molding, you should apply a coat of primer to the wood and allow it to dry for at least an hour before attaching it onto the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Employ a stud finder and a pencil to locate and label the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels act as a reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Before attaching the crown molding to the wall, invert it ensuring that it is in an upright position. Enlist an assistant to help you in aligning the molding onto a second ladder and controlling it while you proceed. Begin from the center of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes arise along the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are the walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at the mitered corners are also filled with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape along the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
