Our Installation Process
Size the Space: Determine the total length of the straight walls in the area. To illustrate, it may require a single 12-foot strip of crown molding to cover every short wall, and two 8-foot sections for every long wall, especially in a 165 square foot area that has a couple of 15-foot walls and another two 11-foot walls.
Crown molding should be cut: For the first step, the crown molding piece needs to be measured and marked before cutting. While a manual miter box and saw can be employed for miter-cutting crown molding, using a powered miter saw is preferred since the cuts will be more exact.
Clean up the Wood: In many cases, the majority of molding already comes with a primer coat of paint, but should you happen to be using bare wood molding, it's advisable to use a coat of primer to the wood and let it dry for at least an hour before installing it to the wall.
Locate and mark the wall studs: Use a stud finder and a pencil to identify and mark the wall studs on the wall surface, positioning the marks a few inches below the wall/ceiling connection. These labels will serve as a point of reference while joining the crown molding pieces together.
Fit the crown molding in place: Preceding installing the crown molding on the wall, invert it so that it is upright. Recruit an assistant to help you in positioning the molding on a second ladder and controlling it as you proceed. Begin from the middle of the wall.
Caulk Holes: Gaps and spaces might sometimes arise between the molding and the walls and ceiling, because infrequently are these walls and ceilings perfectly flat. To resolve these spaces, it's possible to seal them by using a bead of flexible, paintable caulk over them. Any leftover gaps at those mitered corners are also rectified with caulk.
Painting the Molding: If you haven't already applied paint to them, attach painter's tape at the top and bottom edges of the moldings at the points where they meet the wall and ceiling.
